Alexei Efros - Physics Professor
EFROS: I am professor Efros Alexei of the physics department in the room 216 JFB building.
ASPIRE: What kind of science do you do?
EFROS: I am doing theory of condensed matter Mostly semi conductors.
ASPIRE: What makes your science important?
EFROS: I think importance in semi conductors in modern electronics make my science important.
ASPIRE: What made you decide to go into the field that you study?
EFROS: It was when I was very young, and I just fell in love with physics after reading about Relativity Theory.
ASPIRE: What kind of education/ academic background do you have?
EFROS: I have graduated from one of the best Russian universities then I got PHD at Yofe Institute and then second doctor degree at the same institute.
ASPIRE: How did you hear about the U of U?
EFROS: I just came in this country by invitation of CA riverside and I worked there for 2 years, then u of u found me there and proposed me permanent position here and I liked the mountains so I stayed here.
ASPIRE: What do you like most about your job?
EFROS: I like possibility to satisfy my interest to the science.
ASPIRE: What do you like least about your job?
EFROS: I like possibility to satisfy my interest to the science.
ASPIRE: What do you like least about your job?
EFROS: I don't like to write grants and worry about money on research which is very important part of the job for the American professor.
ASPIRE: What hobbies do you have outside of the field of science?
EFROS: Almost no hobbies at all. I like history, especially ancient history.
ASPIRE: What advice would you give to an aspiring scientist?
EFROS: I want them to be themselves. I want them to think about science and realize that the driving force of the science is the satisfaction of your curiosity.
