List labs according to:

STANDARD 3600-08
Students will investigate the universe and Earth's place in that system.
OBJECTIVE
3600-0801
Research and describe scientific theories on the origin and structure of the universe.

Compare and contrast theories of the formation of the universe.
Big Bang Theory + Scientific Method

Illustrate and explain star life cycl7es. Construct a model of the solar system to scale and relate it to other astronomical distances.
Star Life Cycle + Protoplantary Disc

Compare and contrast the distribution and occurrence of elements in the universe.
Protoplanetary Disc + Star Life Cycle (Cosmic Zoom, a portion of protoplanetary disc activities)
OBJECTIVE
3600-0802
Relate the cycles of the Earth, moon and sun to Earth system.

Diagram and explain the relationship of tides to the gravitational effects of the moon and sun.
Tides

Diagram the cause of seasons and differences in day length.
Sundial Activity + Season Exercise
- Flash has Shadow Simulator

Explain how changes in the sun's radiation affect Earth systems (e.g., human life, telecommunications, atmosphere).
Atmosphere and Radiation activities:
Ozone - Atmosphere Viewer - Atmosphere Composition - Greenhouse Gasses

Explain how changes in the sun's radiation affect Earth systems (e.g., human life, telecommunications, atmosphere).
Atmosphere and Radiation activities
OBJECTIVE
3600-0803
Evaluate space exploration.

Summarize the history of space exploration.
Essay from Scientists - find at least three different things developed due to space exploration.

Identify examples of spinoffs from space exploration and explain their effects on people's lives (e.g., computers, flame retardant materials, optics, international relations). Determine how data gathered by space instruments has expanded our knowledge of Earth.

Compare and contrast conditions on planets and hypothesize the possibilities of colonization.
Space Odyssey and atmosphere activities

This core will be obselete after this year. To see a comparison of the old core and the new core, and how it affects our storyboards/lessons, check out this document that Gina made. After looking at the new core curriculum requirements, it was determined that a lesson about waves would be beneficial to the overall delivery of the units. This is part of the new 8th grade core, but we are producing it to support our new curriculum requirements. This will include four sections about Waves intro, sound waves, light waves, and earthquake waves.
