The Energy of Moving Matter

The idea of energy is very important in science and in everyday life. Energy does everything. Without it we would not move, fall, breathe -- it surrounds us. Energy is present in many forms: mechanical energy, chemical energy, electromagnetic energy, heat energy, and nuclear energy.

Perhaps the most obvious type of energy is a kind of mechanical energy that scientists call Kinetic Energy. In simple terms, the word kinetic refers to motion.

Kinetic Energy is the energy of an object in motion.
